City to get multi-storey car park

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 10 The Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and the Kolkata-based Simplex Projects Ltd today signed an agreement on a public-private partnership mode to construct an automatic six-storey (multi-level) car park on a plot of around three bighas by the side of the Panbazar flyover at an estimated cost of around Rs 40 crore.

GMDA sources here said that four storeys of the structure would be able to accommodate around 400 four-wheelers and around 200 two-wheelers at a time, while the rest two storeys would be used for other commercial purposes.

While the GMDA will provide the land acquired from the Assam Textbook Production and Publication Corporation (ATPPC) for the car park, the Simplex Projects would spend the required amount on it. However, for making the said investment, the Simplex Projects will be provided the land on a 60-year lease and it will pay an annual rent of Rs 31 lakh to the GMDA during this period. The annual rent amount would be shared equally between the GMDA and the ATPPC, said the sources.

The construction of the project is expected to be completed within 24 months' time and to make it commercially viable, the top two storeys of the sturcutre are proposed to be used for commercial purposes, sources further said.

The GMDA is planning more such car parks at various places of the city on the same public-private partnership mode and another two to three such car parks are expected to come up shortly, said the sources.
