City publisher for Beijing book fair

GUWAHATI, Aug 25 � Bani Mandir, a leading publishing house of the State, is taking part in an international book fair scheduled to be held from August 30 to September 3 next in the Chinese capital of Beijing. The publishing firm is learnt to have been taking part in the fair on its own.

It has prepared a list of books for the purpose of displaying at the book fair. The list includes a number of books on the heritage of the people of Assam and their history. Besides, the list has books that represent the essence of Assamese literature and culture. It has also included the works of Srimanta Sankaradeva and his apostle Madhavadeva.

Further, the books listed by the firm for the purpose also include the ones on contemporary trends in Assamese literature, besides the fictions, children literature. Some of the books are also on Assamese culinary.

Some important books listed by the firm include the Gunamala of Srimanta Sankaradeva, the Kirtanghosa, the Namghosa, the Dasama, the Purnaga Katha Guru Chairta, Satsari Asam Buranji, Ahomar Din, the evergreen songs of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, Burhi Air Sadhu, Early History of Kamarupa, Studies in the History of Assam, among others.

The works of the writers like Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbarua, Dr Surya Kumar Bhuyan, Lummer Dai are also included in the list.

Utpal Hazarika and Manasmrita Hazarika will take part in the event on behalf of the owners of the publishing firm, said a press release here.
