City Police pip Maharana AC 2-1

GUWAHATI, Aug 17 - City Police edged past Maharana Athletic Club 2-1 in their Jibeswar Goswami Guwahati Sports Association �A� Division Football League match at the Nehru Stadium here today.

It didn�t take long for the policemen to take the lead as L Hmar found the back of the net in the 11th minute. Hmar went on to ensure his brace with another goal in the 15th minute, while it was Maharana�s Samujal Rabha who reduced the deficit with a 47th minute goal.

Despite the defeat, Maharana Athletic Club with 12 points is the second team to qualify for the RG Baruah Super Division Football League.

According to rules, usually the champion team of the GSA �A� Division Football League is promoted to the Super Division. However, due to Food Corporation of India Sports Club withdrawing this time, the organisers had to fill up two places in the Super Division League.

Earlier on Tuesday, Assam Police Blues ended their campaign with an unassailable 16 points to secure the top spot and qualify for the Super Division.
