City locality sees drastic change

By A Correspondent

GUWAHATI, June 5 - The Lachit Nagar area has seen a drastic change in a remarkably short span of time a journey from being a waterlogged area to a posh destination. With various malls and restaurants in and around the area, Lachit Nagar is now a hub of shoppers and foodies.

The city development authorities have also played a significant role in turning the area to a happening place as the roads and drainage systems are being maintained well. The GMC has constructed underground drains so that there is no waterlogging during the rainy season. Most of the by-lanes have been constructed efficiently, and a few are undergoing construction.

Though there is a garbage dump and one might feel a bit unpleasant while crossing the place, it is actually a point where people put their junk and the GMC garbage trucks clean it every morning.

I have been living here for nearly 12 years. I used to dread the flood every season as the floodwater would get inside our house. But now the condition of the roads is far better. Lachit Nagar seems to have had a complete makeover, said a resident.

The main cause of the flood in the area was the rainwater streaming down from the Sarania hill. The streets were filled with filthy drainwater and red sand which made it difficult for the people living there to even come out of their houses. However, the condition of the road has undergone a drastic change, said a local resident.
