City Livelihood Centre launched in Hailakandi

By Correspondent

HAILAKANDI, Nov 12 - The City Livelihood Centre (CLC) was inaugurated by Minister for Environment and Forest P Suklabaidya in Hailakandi town on Monday.

Speaking at a function organised on the occasion at Hailakandi Municipal Office, Suklabaidya said that the coming up of the CLC would enable the urban poor to offer their goods and services in an organised manner to the potential buyers. The minister exuded optimism that the CLC would strive to bridge the gap between demand and supply of goods and services produced by the urban poor.

Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli expressed hope that the CLC would help reduce poverty and vulnerability of the SHG families and urban poor by connecting them to gainful self-employment and skill wage employment opportunities.

The CLC is a platform where product/service providers and seekers will come together for getting mutual benefit and sustainable income opportunity, said Executive Officer of Hailakandi Municipal Board Prodip Timung.

The CLC will also work as a platform for self-help groups (SHGs). Officials said that the SHGs functioning in the municipal areas will now have a permanent address a one stop shop where they can sell their products and services.

Set up under the Centres Deen Dayal Antodaya-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), the CLC will enable the urban poor to access information and business support services, as and when required.

Apart from these services, the CLC will also train people who are interested in learning new skills.

Minister Suklabaidya and DC Jalli also distributed revolving fund of Rs 10,000 each to SHGs of Hailakandi and Lala Municipal areas.

The CLC website was also launched on the occasion.

The function was attended, among others, by Executive Officer, Lala Municipal Board, Jyotirmoy Daimary.

The event was organised jointly by City Mission Management Unit, DAY-NULM and Hailakandi Municipal Board.
