By STAFF Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 16 - The Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and other hospitals across the city have extended their support to the Indian Medical Association (IMA)s call for a nationwide strike on Monday to withdraw the non-essential medical services in protest against the attacks on doctors in West Bengal.

The outpatient departments of the hospitals would remain closed as part of the strike. The strike, however, would not affect the emergency services and indoor patients of the hospitals.

The Junior Doctors Association of the GMCH has decided to boycott the non-essential medical services from 6 am of June 17 to 6 am on June 18.

The resident doctors and internees posted in various departments would stage a peaceful protest on the GMCH campus during the period. The emergency services, however, would be fully functional.

GNRC Hospital, Nemcare Hospital, Pratiksha Hospital, Dispur Hospital, Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital among other hospitals here have confirmed about closing all the OPDs tomorrow, extending their solidarity to the cause. Emergency and other essential services in the hospitals would function normally.
