City college shines in NEHU graduation exam

GUWAHATI, July 20 � The Regional College of Higher Education (RCHE), Guwahati, has recorded a spectacular performance in the North Eastern Hill University graduation examination 2011, the results of which were declared in Shillong recently, a press release said.

The top three positions in Biochemistry were bagged by students of RCHE � 1st: Dharmada Deka (76%), 2nd: Rabbul Ibne Ahad (75.25%) and 3rd: Parismita Kalita (74.88%). Even the 6th position was also grabbed by another RCHE student � Plabita Saharia (72%).

In the Biotechnology stream, the 2nd and 4th positions were secured by RCHE students Tamanna Bhuyan (78.38%) and Sweta Dey (76.13%) respectively.

In the Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) stream, the 5th and 8th positions were secured by RCHE students Paul Dutta(67.25%) and Afsana Laskar (65.50%).

The RCHE may be the only college of Assam which is affiliated to the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, but the fact that the students of RCHE are no less in calibre than their counterparts in any other college affiliated to the university has been proved by the spectacular performance of the college in the graduation results of NEHU, the release added.

Last year, altogether 54 students of RCHE had sat for the BSc Biotechnology, Biochemistry and BCA exams out of which 49 secured first class and 5 second class. The pass percentage was 100 per cent, much above the aggregate university percentage. In Biotechnology, two students were placed among the first ten positions while four got top positions in Biochemistry. In BCA also, four students were placed among top ten of the university.

It may be noted that RCHE�s students competed with renowned colleges having more than 80 years of academic history in this region, viz., St Anthony�s, St Edmund�s, St Mary�s and Lady Keane in achieving this feat.
