City buses seized for flouting rules

GUWAHATI, May 14 � The Office of the District Transport Officer, Kamrup (Metro), today seized as many as six city buses that were operating without complying with the laid- down rules and regulations.

As part of the drive, cases were also registered against three buses, District Transport Officer (Registration and Licensing) Gautam Das told this reporter.

Das said that the temporary check-points were put up in Ganeshguri and Chandmari areas where all the vehicles passing thorough were examined.

Those buses found violating rules relating to uniform, issuance of ticket and carrying unauthorised goods were imposed fine.

Das also added that three ASTC-run buses were also fined for not adhering to the rules of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Apart from the buses, 12 persons were fined for not wearing helmets while driving two-wheelers.

Das informed that the department will be strict on everyone, be it the ones riding two-wheelers or four-wheelers, if found violating the rules.

�Autorickshaw and trekker drivers will not be spared as well,� he said, adding that the special drive will continue in different parts of Guwahati.
