City area water supply project launched

GUWAHATI, Jan 11 - The Siro Seuji Water Supply Project, implemented by the Uttar Ananda Nagar Mahila Unnayan Samiti, Noonmati in the city, with financial assistance from the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, Guwahati Refinery�s corporate social responsibility wing, was started with much fanfare among the residents of the area today.

Anjana Baruah, Deputy General Manager, IOCL, inaugurated the water supply project, implemented at a cost of about Rs 8 lakh, 50 per cent of which is borne by the Corporation.

In her inaugural address, Smt Baruah praised the women of the locality led by Kiran Prabha Bhuyan, a retired government employee and Hironmoyee Roy, and said that the successful implementation of the water supply project is reflective of the IOCL�s effort to empower the woman fraternity. She also urged the women of the locality to avail the benefits of the other women empowerment schemes of the IOCL. Several other IOCL officials also attended the function.

Abin Bezboruah, a resident of the area, has donated the plot of land where the water supply project has been established. The project will initially benefit more than 35 households of the locality, including people from the below poverty line.

The residents of the area have lauded the efforts of both the Mahila Samiti as well as the Guwahati Refinery authorities for the successful implementation of the water supply project which will reduce the water scarcity faced by the residents, to a large extent.
