AIZAWL, Oct 5 - Union Home Minister Amit Shah today reassured leaders of civil societies in Mizoram that the proposed Citizenship (Amendment Bill) would in no way override the existing Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in the State.
Shah held a meeting with the local leaders at the Raj Bhavan here during his one-day visit to the Mizoram capital, the first after he became the Union Home Minister.
Earlier, the Mizoram NGO Coordination Committee had planned to boycott Shah�s visit to protest against the Centre�s decision to reintroduce the citizenship Bill in the Parliament. It later called off the proposed protest after an assurance that the Home Minister would discuss the issue with its leaders.
According to NGO Coordination Committee secretary Lalhmachhuana, Shah assured them that the ILP system would be included as a proviso in the proposed Bill, and that the draft Bill would be discussed with the NGO leaders.
�Shah assured that a special provision would be included in the CAB so that the NE States that have the ILP system would continue to use the system for protection,� he said.
Shah assured them that the proposed citizenship Bill would not in any way override the existing provisions of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, the ILP system and the State-specific Acts in the North East.
On the civil societies� request for reinforcement of security along the Indo-Bangladesh border, Shah assured that one more battalion of the CRPF would be deployed to guard the border, exclusively for the people of Mizoram.
On the imbroglio regarding the ongoing Bru repatriation from Tripura, the Home Minister assured that an interlocutor would be appointed to resolve the crisis.
