GUWAHATI, Nov 23 - Former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta today reiterated that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 is in direct conflict with the Assam Accord, and is also detrimental to the cause of the indigenous people of Assam.

Addressing the media this afternoon, Mahanta, who is one of the signatories to the Assam Accord, said that the Asom Andolan Sangrami Mancha will meet representatives of different political parties in New Delhi from November 25 in a phased manner to press for withdrawal of the Bill.

Mahanta, who is the chief advisor to the Mancha, informed that they have already expressed their discontentment to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister via email.

We have expressed our reservations on the issue before the Joint Parliamentary Committee. A red carpet welcome to the Hindu migrants will dent the social and cultural fabric of the State, he said.
