Citizens body against home quarantine for COVID patients

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 25 - Opposing the option of home quarantine for the COVID-19 positive persons in the State, Guwahati Yuba Nagarik Samiti has argued that since asymptomatic persons can also transmit the disease to the healthy members of the family, it is better to let the Health department look after the COVID-management in Assam for better accountability.

COVID-19 has entered a dangerous phase in Assam and at the same time, several COVID affected patients are recovering and being discharged in good health. A centrally monitored mechanism can only keep track of the entire process, whereas home quarantine option for the asymptomatic positive patients will leave scope for mismanagement and faulty tracking, the citizens' body alleged.

It further stated that even a single mistake in home management of COVID will leave others in the family and the society vulnerable to the infection.

While allowing the non-symptomatic COVID-19 positive patients to remain in home quarantine, after signing an undertaking, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had stated that the Health department doesnt prefer home quarantine as it involves a risk of transmission of the disease in the family, particularly children and the elderly.

Also expressing his concern over the growing campaign on social media for home management of COVID patients, Samiti president Kailash Sarma stated that COVID-19 is a sensitive issue involving all sections of society and criticising the State health department for the sake of criticism or political benefits is unfortunate.
