GUWAHATI, Nov 9 - Various organisations of Assam on Saturday welcomed the Supreme Court verdict on the Ayodhya dispute, thanking the judiciary for putting an end to the decades-long problem in an amicable manner.
�It�s a historic day for the people and their faith over the judiciary has been strengthened by this decision. Construction of Ram Mandir on the disputed land and direction to the government for allotting five acres of land for the mosque are the most practical solutions to this sensitive problem that involves the sentiments of the people,� founder president of Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) Dhiren Baruah said.
SGBG general secretary Kailash Sarma said the verdict has proved that the judiciary always maintains a neutral stand and takes decisions impartially on the basis of facts and evidence.
The SGBG also congratulated the parties who fought for justice and thanked Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and all the other judges.
DN Chakravartty, president of the Guwahati Senior Citizens� Association and Journalists� Association of Assam, has written a letter to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, requesting him to confer the title of �Assam Ratna� to Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi in recognition of his historic judgment and ending the long-pending dispute. He also requested Sonowal to urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to confer Bharat Ratna to Chief Justice Gogoi for bringing about an amicable settlement of the issue.
The Sadou Asom Devalay Sangha welcomed the verdict, and urged people to maintain peace and harmony in society.
The Viswa Hindu Parishad, Guwahati Mahanagar Samiti also hailed the Supreme Court verdict on the Ayodhya dispute.
