AGARTALA, Feb 23 - Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers DV Sadananda Gowda today inaugurated a centre of the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET) here.

While speaking on the occasion at the Town Hall, Gowda said that under the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government at the Centre, the overall development in the entire North East region has been augmented, especially in the fields of education and infrastructure.

During the last five years, the CIPET has extended from 23 to 35 locations across the country, and the Agartala centre has been established at a cost of Rs 40.10 crore on 50:50 basis by both the Union and State governments, said Gowda.

The entire plastics industry, which has made a significant contribution towards development, has been gaining momentum during the last five years, Gowda maintained.

Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarma, who was present in the programme, said despite inheriting a huge financial debt, Tripura has been making progress under the new regime.

Dr Sandesh Kumar Jain, Principal Director of CIPET, said the CIPET is a premier national institute under the Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers which is dedicated to skill development, technology support services, academics and research in all domains of plastics engineering and technology.

Dr Jain added that the Agartala centre would be a diploma-level institute approved by the AICTE, and in the coming days, a laboratory would be set up for product testing facilities. He said that six more Agartala-like CIPET centres would come up in different parts of the country.

Dr Jain stated that the Agartala institute has started functioning since March 2017 and imparted skill development training to unemployed youths of the State.

Last year, 195 youths of the State received training and got placements in different organisations. This year, altogether 315 youths have been trained at the institute and the process of their placement is going on, said Jain.

Later, certificates were given to some successful students, who have completed training at the CIPET centre and got placements in different institutes.
