CID tightens noose around senior cop

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 14 - Tightening its noose around senior Assam Police officer Kumar Sanjit Krishna over his alleged involvement in the Sub Inspector recruitment scam, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday conducted a search at his Guwahati residence.

Although the search reportedly went on for several hours, it was still not confirmed whether the investigators could lay their hands on any document of evidential value.

Krishna, who was first transferred from the post of Superintendent of Police, Karimganj, and subsequently summoned by the CID, has been virtually put under house arrest with a team of police officers maintaining round-the-clock vigil.

With Krishnas arrest looking imminent, sources informed that they were also tracing financial transactions involving the accused, amid allegations that he was the one who actually helped in getting access to the content of the question paper that was under his custody for a brief period.

It was in his capacity as the SP of Karimganj that he hobnobbed with Rubul Hazarika, one of the prime accused, who is now under arrest, a source claimed.

The sources, while confirming that huge amounts of money changed hands, further stated that multiple bank accounts of all the accused along with their laptops and cell phones are being scanned.

Police is also investigating the involvement of former DIG PK Dutta, another APS officer who served as the deputy of Krishna in Karimganj.

Meanwhile, Akshay Chand, owner of Akshay Communications who is undergoing treatment at a Guwahati hospital and was supposed to be discharged on Wednesday, is likely to be questioned by the investigators on Thursday after his release from hospital.

ANN Service adds from Nilambazar: The CID on Tuesday raided the residence of Kumar Sanjit Krishna, former SP of Karimganj, over his alleged involvement in the SI recruitment scam.

CID officials also interrogated five police personnel, including the driver of the former SP, the in-charge of the police guest house and the security guard of the SPs official residence. After that, the CID officials produced the five police personnel at the Karimganj CJMs Court under tight security. The court recorded their statements under Section 164 of the Indian Penal Code. It has been learnt that during the interrogation by the CID officers, the police personnel gave a lot of information.
