GUWAHATI, March 13 � The State government today said that CID investigation is on in the alleged Rs 3,000-crore �agriculture scam� in the State and any person involved in the scam will be dealt with sternly.
The issue came up during the Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly and Agriculture Minister Rakibul Hussain said that court-monitored investigation in on in the matter.
In his written reply to a question by BJP MLA Jadhav Deka, Hussain said the government will not allow anybody to embezzle funds meant for agriculture development and it will act on the alleged scam based on the report of the CID.
In his query, Deka had asked if the �Rs 3,000-crore agriculture scam has come to the notice of the government?� and if it will seek a CBI inquiry to identify and punish the culprits.
In a supplementary Deka expressed his apprehension over the possibility of the CID being �influenced� by some vested party and asked is there is any plan to recommend a CBI inquiry into the matter.
Hussain said that it will not be prudent to doubt the integrity of the CID, which has a number of dedicated officers and staff. �Such aspersion will damage their morale,� he said, adding that action will be taken against anybody found involved in any misappropriation of funds based on the CID investigation report.
BJP�s Manoranjan Das said that following the CBI investigation in the coal scam a lot of startling revelations had come and added, �If CBI is handed over investigation of the agriculture scam, similar results may come.�
