Chitrangada for Delhi drama fest

GUWAHATI, Feb 6 � Darpan, a Guwahati-based organisation has received invitation to present the musical drama Chitrangada on stage at the 17th Bharat Rang Mahotsav, an international theatre festival being held in New Delhi from February 1 to 18.

A classic epic written by Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore in 1892, its Assamese adaptation is by Madhurima Barua. Directed by Abinash Sarma, Chitrangada is scheduled to be staged on February 13 in the festival at Sriram Center, New Delhi.

The play showcased martial art forms, dance, music and poetry. Leading dance exponent Anjana Moyee Saikia portrayed the character Chitrangada. She enthralled the audiences all over with her wonderful display of dances and acting in the lead role. Her powerful performances helped unravel a wonderfully fascinating story. The choreography and costumes of the play have been designed by Anjana Moyee herself. Other important aspects of the play include its wonderful light designed by Kaushik Borbora and music by Bhaskar Jyoti Ojah.

Meanwhile, much of the play�s preparations have already been completed. Before leaving for New Delhi, Darpan will hold two shows of the play at Rabindra Bhawan here on February 7 at 3.30 pm and 6 pm.

Chitrangada has been successfully performed at a number of places like Imphal, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
