By The Assam Tribune

NEW DELHI, March 7 (PTI) - China has built five airfields, a network of rail lines and more than 58,000 km of roads in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), Lok Sabha was informed today.

In written answers, Defence Minister A K Antony said due to differences in perception of the Line of Actual Control (LAC), "situations have arisen on the ground that could have been avoided if we had a common perception of the LAC (with China)".

"The total road network in TAR is assessed to be 58,000 kms in the year 2010. Extension of Qinghai Tibet Railway to Xigaze is in progress. Another railway line from Kashgar to Hotan in Xinjinag Uighur Autonomous Region (XUAR) is also under construction.

"Five airfields in TAR have become operational and include Gongar, Linchi, Pangta, Hoping and Gar Gunsa," he said.
