Children�s Day celebrated at Kalaigaon

KALAIGAON, Nov 15 - Children�s Day was celebrated by members of the Ronghar Sadan, Kalaigaon with a daylong programme at Kendukalai Bhavan on Saturday. On the occasion, various literary events were arranged for the schoolchildren to pay tributes to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

The programme started with paying of homage to Nehru by Tarun Azad Deka, which was followed by lighting of earthen lamps by Rajesh Guru. Recitation, quiz, extempore speech and drawing competitions were held, which were conducted by Hirakjyoti Deka, Dhurjyoti Barman and Nisha Rani Medhi.

An open session was presided over by Niharika Nidhi Deka, president of the Ronghar Sadan. Wildlife activist Jayanta Kumar Das inaugurated the open session. Teacher Biplab Deka was the appointed speaker.

Udalguri ADC cum Bhergaon SDO (Civil) Gokul Chandra Brahma was the chief guest in the open session. Addressing the students and guardians, Brahma appealed to them to concentrate more on basic learning and responsibilities towards fellow citizens and society as a whole. �A change in society will depend on the attitudes of parents and guardians who can motivate a child to learn real things. Merely good marks in exams can never make a good citizen,� he said.

The open session events were conducted by Ronghar Sadan Kalaigaon vice president Barasha, joint secretary Joyeeta Sandilya and assistant secretary Khanjan Barua.

Astojita Saikia, Bhaskarjyoti Siban and Jahnabi Kalita were placed first, second and third, respectively in the recitation competition, while Pranit Kumar Kar, Nikita Saharia and Asthojita Saikia grabbed the first three places in extempore speech. In the quiz competition, the team of Aditya Sandilya, Debarun Saharia and Bhaskarjyoti Sivam won the first prize. In the drawing contest, Labib Arman, Priyali Modak and Afrina Yasmin grabbed the first three places in Group A, while in Nibaran Nath, Pranit Kumar Kar and Utpal Sandilya secured the top three spots in Group B.
