Children Science Congress from Oct 13

DIBRUGARH, Oct 5 - The 24th State level National Children Science Congress (NCSC) will be held in Dibrugarh University from October 13 to 16 under the joint initiative of the district organising committee of the National Children�s Science Congress (NCSC) and the varsity. The event is supported by the district administration here.

Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC), Guwahati is the State organiser and the programme has been sponsored and catalysed by National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, New Delhi and Department of Science and Technology, Government of Assam. Pilgrimage and NCSC, Dibrugarh is associated with the event as coordinating agency, the organisers said.

The NCSC 2016 will witness the participation of some 300 budding child scientists along with their mentor teachers representing all the districts of Assam in showcasing their innovative projects and ideas in various events that will be conducted throughout the four days.

The focal theme for NCSC 2016 is �Science Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development: with special emphasis on accessibility for persons with disabilities�.

Some of the important highlights of the programme are the book fair, science exhibition, display and presentation of the child scientists� projects, interaction and video conferencing with scientists� and science academicians, visit to the university laboratories, learning science with fun activities, quiz, cultural events, sight-seeing etc.

Chief Minister Sarabananda Sonowal, Education Minister Dr Himanata Biswa Sarma and Minister for Science and Technology Keshab Mahanta are expected to attend the event. Eminent scientists and academicians like Professor BN Goswami, former Director, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Emeritus Fellow, IISER, Pune; Birla Planetarium Kolkata; Pradip Saikia, Principal Petrophyscist at Schlumberger Oilfield Services, Luanda, Angola, Dr Achinta Narayan Bezbaruah, North Dakota University, USA (video conferencing) among many others will interact with the participants, a release informed.
