Children of Ashadeep perform in Parliament

GUWAHATI, Aug 1 - Seven children with intellectual disability along with three assistants from city-based mental health society Ashadeep performed a Bihu dance at a cultural event �Divya Kala Shakti. Witnessing Ability in Disability� held recently at Balayogi Auditorium, Parliament Library Building, New Delhi, according to a press statement issued here today.

The event was organised by the Department of Empowerment of Person with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.

The event was held in the presence of President of India, the Vice President, the Prime Minister of India, the Speaker of Lok Sabha, the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, other ministers, MPs, Secretary, DEPwD and secretaries of other departments.

The cultural evening showcased the creative artistic abilities of divyang children. The extraordinary talent displayed by the children in the fields of singing, dance and music and their spirited performances created a spell-binding effect on the dignitaries present.

The divyang children and youths were drawn from various states, the statement added.
