Child trafficking a major problem in NE

By Correspondent

SHILLONG, July 26 The Chairperson of National Commission of Protection of Child Rights, Kushal Singh has termed child trafficking as a major problem in the North- eastern region.

Addressing a workshop on Child Right and Child Protection organised by the State Education Mission Authority of Meghalaya (SSA) in collaboration with National Commission of Protection of Child Rights in Shillong on Wednesday, Singh said that it was unfortunate that these children have been taken from their domestic environment and put into exploitative arena.

These actions against the child are clear violation of Child Rights, Singh said. She also expressed concern over the corporal punishment of children going on in the country. Any form of corporal punishment inflicted on the child is a violation of Child Rights, as it lays the foundation of violence in the society, Singh said. She was against child labour, as this is against the Child Rights.
