DHUBRI, June 5 - An 11-year-old Mohibul Sk from Dubasuri, Bolkamari area under Bilasipara Police Station, who served at a brick kiln in Nepal for over seven months as a bonded child labour, only for two meals a day, was finally rescued by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Dhubri recently.
As per the members of the Committee, the boy was handed over to the management of Ratan Brick Kiln located at Rajberaj, Nepal in October, 2018 by the father of the child as a mortgage for Rs 3 lakh in Nepali currency. �Ismail Sk, the father of the child had an agreement with the management of the brick kiln that he would supply labourers to the kiln and he took Rs 3 lakh in Nepali currency from them and kept his 11-year-old child as a mortgage,� said the chairman of CWC, Sabina Begum. Begum also added, �After counselling the rescued child, we found out that the child was not only made to do laborious work, but also had to go through many kinds of mental and physical torture. He was not even provided with food sometimes.�
Talking to this correspondent, the rescued child said that his father married twice and there were five children. He said that the financial condition of his family is very bad. �After leaving me in the brick kiln, my father told me that he will return soon with more labourers and set me free but he never returned,� he added.
Giving more details about the rescue process, the CWC informed that, a social activist namely Raju Nepali from Darjeeling first spotted the child who informed the District Administration Office of Satari, Rajberaj Nepal. They did the needful and took legal action against the brick kiln and the child was later handed over to us.
However, the CWC is keeping the child in their child care home currently as they could not hand over the child to his father. �If any responsible member of his family turns out to take the custody of the child, we will hand him over to them. Other wise, he will be with us in our child care home,� Begum added.
