ITANAGAR, Oct 8 - A four-year-old child from Chimpu here died of COVID-19, taking the death toll in Arunachal Pradesh to 21. Meanwhile, 434 patients were cured of the disease on Wednesday, taking the number of recoveries to 8,396. On the other hand, 260 more people tested positive during the same period in the State.
A senior Health official said the four-year-old male child with COVID-19 infection died at the dedicated COVID-19 Hospital at Chimpu on Tuesday night.
�The child was suffering from cerebral palsy with seizures disorder and had feeding difficulties leading to anaemia and malnutrition. Immediate cause of death was septic shock,� State Surveillance Officer (IDSP) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.
A bulletin issued by the State Directorate of Health Services said with the detection of the new cases, the State�s tally of confirmed cases mounted to 11,267.
Following the discharge of 434 patients, the number of active cases in the State has come down to 2,850. Out of the total active cases, 959 are recuperating in various COVID care facilities and 1,891 are under home isolation.
Of the fresh cases, the Itanagar Capital Complex reported the highest (80) cases, followed by Papum Pare (65), East Siang (24), West Siang (21), Tirap (14) and Changlang (10).
Seven cases each were reported from Lower Dibang Valley and Dibang Valley, six from Kurung Kumey, and five each from Upper Subansiri and Namsai. Four cases were detected in Upper Siang, three in West Kameng, two each in Lower Subansiri, Lower Siang and Leparada, while one each came from Tawang, Lohit and Siang.
Among the new cases, 207 cases were found to be asymptomatic and 53 symptomatic, as per the bulletin. Of the total recoveries, the Itanagar Capital Complex registered the highest (377) cases, followed by Lower Siang (16).
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu today held a meeting with the Health Department to discuss the COVID-19 strategy in the State.
While asserting that health remains the top priority of the State Government, the Chief Minister called for making the best use of the available manpower and ensure optimum utilisation of funds. He assured the Health Department of all possible support and urged it to check any malpractices, especially in this time of crisis, so that there is no compromise on health services delivery.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and Health Minister Alo Libang, among others.
