DHEMAJI, Jan 30 � Preparations are on to celebrate the 505th birth anniversary of Veer Chilarai as Chilarai Divas on the Hiloipara High School premises in west Dhemaji on February 2 and 3 under the aegis of the Dhemaji Zila Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani.
A celebration committee with Bimal Dutta as the president, Hemuram Bora as the working president and Tapan Kumar Talukdar as the secretary has been formed. A reception committee has been constituted, which is headed by Paramananda Bora as the president with six other sub-committees. A souvenir, Chilarai, edited by Robin Koch will be released in the programme.
The celebration will begin on February 2 with the lighting of an earthen lamp by a senior citizen, Muhiram Hazarika. Thereafter, the flag will be hoisted by Bimal Dutta, president, celebration committee. Chilarai�s portrait will be garlanded by veteran social worker Kanak Dutta. Sunil Koch, assistant teacher, Batgharia HS School, will inaugurate the delegates� camp. In the evening, a cultural function will be organised.
On the second day, a cultural procession will be taken out, which will be flagged off by Ganesh Barman, officer-in-charge, Machkhowa Outpost.
At noon, the open meeting will be held. It will be inaugurated by Mainul Islam Mandal, SP, Dhemaji . Ajit Kumar Bordoloi, Deputy Commissioner, Dhemaji, will be the chief guest in the meeting. Professor Chitra Kumar Koch of Dhakuakhana College will attend the meeting as the appointed speaker, while Bhupen Dutta, working president, Yuba Chatra Sanmilani, and Dipak Kumar Saikia, adviser to the same body, will be the distinguished guests.
In the evening, a cultural show will be arranged where a play directed by Jyotish Gayan will be staged by the Hiloipara Yuba Sangha. The cultural show will be inaugurated by Dulal Dutta, lecturer, Machkhowa College.
