Chief Justice served poor quality water!

GUWAHATI, June 4 � Though hotels and restaurants normally charge high prices from customers in the name of quality food and services, the standard of food and beverage served there can be a real cause of concern.

In Guwahati too, such an incident was reported to the District Consumer Redressal Forum, Kamrup, Guwahati recently, where the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court Justice RS Garg and his family were served contaminated packaged drinking water of two popular brands on board the river cruise vessel Alfresco.

The case No 57/2010 at the District Consumer Redressal Forum, Kamrup, has been registered against the Alfresco floating restaurant and both the packaged drinking water companies.

It has been learnt that after Justice Garg and his family members noticed some foreign objects like dead mosquito and fungus inside the drinking water jars, the matter was immediately brought to the notice of the police, who seized the water jar with the dispenser and sent those to the Public Analyst, Government of Assam.

The Public Analyst, after testing it, opined that the �sample of water in the exhibit �A� does not conform to the prescribed standard for drinking water and is found to be bacteriological contaminated, hence, it is unfit for human consumption�. On the basis of the report the Bharalumukh police station registered a case (No 107/2010) under section 272/284 IPC with section 16 of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act.

The date for the opposite party to appear and file a written statement in the consumer forum is July 20.
