Chess tourney begins

GUWAHATI, June 28 � The late Brahamadutta Sarma Bordoloi Guwahati Chess Championship started from today at Shilpgram, here. The tournament is being held in U-7, U-9, U-11, U-13, U-15, U-17, U-19 boys, girls, woman, veteran and open categories. Altogether 80 players are vying for top honours with 14 international fide rated players participating in the tournament. The tournament was formally inaugurated by Anil Krishna Misra, president of Guwahati Chess Association.

In the U-9 category Madhurjya Kakati, Prithwis Das and Mathan Kashyap Datta won their first round group. In the U-11 category, Kunal Kalita, Madhurjya Talukdar, Aryan Sonowal, Jigyashdipta Gogoi, and Kaustav Kalita won their first round game.

In the U-13 category, Amlan Mahanta, Prasurjya Das, Ankit Das, Debanga Baruah won their game in first round.

In U-15 category, Anubhav Deba Sarma, Aryaman Tewari, Aryan Tewari, Aryavrat Panghal, Ashrant Tewari, Hrishikesh Deka and Shreya Banik won their game in first round. In U-19 boys Chiranjeet Boro and Ravikant Tiwari drew their game. In this group Debashish Barpujari and Debanga Koushik also drew their game.

In the women�s event, Prateeti Borouah won against Bishakha Bora and Sudeshna Sarma won against Atlanta Mahanta. In the open event, Pradip Bhuyan, Chiraranjan Bhuyan, Binod Sinha, Manas Sarma, Kushal Bagadia, Nirmal Jyoti Sarma, Rakesh Sarma, Ajay Kumar Nath and Vignesh Barooah won their game in first round, states a release.
