Chess player faces financial hardship

GUWAHATI, Sept 8 � Leading chess player of the State Mahasweta Kumar, FIDE rating 1847, is facing financial hardship while preparing for the World Junior Chess Championship to be held in Pune from October 5 to 20.

Mahasweta, three times State champion in U-19 girls and women category, has been selected by the All India Chess Federation to represent India in the ensuing world championship. She is the only player from the north-eastern region to be selected for the Indian team.

The player has urged the State Government for financial assistance for preparation and participation in the meet.
