By Correspondent

MORIGAON, Jan 31 Forthe first time, the State tourism department, in collaboration withthe Morigaon district administration, organised the Charon Beel Festival today on the bank of the natural waterbody.

Inaugurating the festival, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi declared that Charon Beel would be upgraded to an eco-tourism hub. He said the sports department has already taken measures to establish a coaching centre for watersports like canoeing and kayaking at Charon Beel as proposed during the 33rd National Games in 2007.

Now, the State Government would like to establish an eco-tourism centre at Charon Beelas an employment-generating unit, Gogoi added.

Emphasising the need for conservation of all waterbodies in the State, Gogoi said the Government would chalk out plans and policies to preserve nature and the environment, besides putting those to sustainable employment-generation use through schemes.
