Charles Wallace fellowship for Sattriya exponent

GUWAHATI, March 28 - Sattriya danseuse and researcher Dr Anwesa Mahanta has been awarded the prestigious Charles Wallace Fellowship by the Charles Wallace Foundation and the British Council, for carrying a research in Heritage and Performance Studies in Queen�s University, Belfast, United Kingdom, for a period of three months. During her period of research, she will also deliver a series of lecture demonstrations on performing art traditions of Assam in several universities and also at the Nehru Centre, London.

A doctorate from the University of Delhi, Dr Mahanta made several research presentations in a number of universities and cultural organisations in countries like Malaysia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, France, United Kingdom and Sri Lanka.

Presently, Dr Mahanta is a Visiting Artiste in Residence at the IIT Guwahati. She is a Yuva Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee, too, said a press release here today.
