Chargesheet filed against ISI man

AGARTALA, Dec 25 � The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has finally submitted charge-sheet against ISI operative Manir Khan and six of his agents � Rana Roy, Ramu Ghosh, Gouranga Dey, Bikram Das, Tajul Islam and Sujit Saha on charge of waging war against the nation before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) here.

In the charge-sheet, the investigating officer has also slapped charges under the Foreigners� Act and the Passport Act against the accused persons. In course of investigation, the agency found that Manir had not only good connection with ISI but was also a Sub-Inspector of the Pakistan Intelligence agency.

According to the charge-sheet submitted in the first week this month, Manir who had got training in Pakistan, was entrusted to send information about the Defence establishments and internal security apparatus in India to ISI higher ups.

During interrogation, the ISI operative confessed that he had a plan to use Tripura�s border to go to his workplace � Punjab � with the help of his local accomplices. Manir told the investigating agency that he had stayed in the residence of Ramu Ghosh at East Pratapgarh for a week before being detected.

Two more cases are pending against the ISI operative in Kolkata and Guwahati.

Based on Central intelligence inputs, BSF and police picked up four persons including Manir near Melagarh on July 4. In course of interrogation, the police came to know that they were ISI agents. Based on their confessional statements, the investigating agency arrested three more persons for their involvement in the ISI network.

Considering the gravity of the case, a team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrived here and interrogated them thoroughly. A team of Punjab police had also grilled the arrested ISI operatives. Investigating Officer Sanjoy Roy visited Punjab in connection with the high profile case.
