Charaipung very much part of Assam

By CORRESPONDENT

SONARI, Aug 24 Charaipung is part and parcel of Assam and no one will be allowed to capture even one inch of land in the area, said Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Health Minister and spoke person of Assam Government, today at Charaipung, a bordering area in Charaideo subdivision.

Sarma and Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain today visited Charaipung where a tense situation has been prevailing since the wee hours of August 14 last due to aggression by Arunachalis with the help of NSCN (IM).

Addressing a gathering at Charaipung, Dr Sarma warned NSCN (IM) and Arunachalis not to enter Assam. Criticising Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister of Nagaland for commenting on the situation at Charaipung, Dr Sarma asked him not to interfare in Assams internal affairs as the Government of Assam is capable of solving its problems.

He informed the mediapersons that joint patrolling would be stopped and only Assam Police will be deployed in the border area as Charaipung is not a disputed area. He disclosed that shoot-at-site order has been given to the police and civil administration of Sivasagar district in case NSCN cadres enter Assam.

Forest Minister Hussain informed the mediapersons that Assam Government would send a detailed report to the Centre regarding Arunachalis aggression in Charaipung and assured that life and property of the citizens of the bordering area would be protected at any cost.

Meanwhile, suspected NSCN (IM) cadres blocked the Longding road near Naharani by felling huge trees to restrain the ministers from going upto river Teok, the official boundary between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. However, both the ministers visited the area on foot covering about two kilometres. The suspected cadres of NSCN (IM) blank fired while the ministers were returning after visiting the border at river Teok, which created a panic situation.

A public meeting was held at Nagahat market complex near Bimalapur-Charaipung under the presidentship of Sarat Borkatoky, local MLA. Both the ministers were also present at the meeting.

Economic blockade: The economic blockade against Arunachal Pradesh has been continuing since last Saturday. Hundreds of activists of various organisations under the banner of AASU and AJYCP have blocked the three different roads connecting Assam with eastern Arunachal Pradesh.
