GUWAHATI, Feb 26 - Charaideo emerged football champions in the Mukhya Mantrir Gaon Panchayat Krira Pratijogita.
In the final of the U-17 championship, played at Sonapur Stadium, Charaideo defeated Kokrajhar 10-9 in a marathon penalty shoot-out. During regulation time the match ended in a goalless draw. In the regular tie-breaker both the teams netted three goals each and in sudden death Charaideo converted the 10th kick while Kokrajhar failed.
In the closing function, former international footballer Gilbertson Sangma was the chief guest. Director of Sports and Youth Welfare Dharma Kanta Mili, Joint Director Partha Pegu, Hockey India treasurer Tapan Kumar Das, former international footballer Debashis Roy, Dean of LNIPE Biswajit Basumatary, among others were present and gave away the prizes.
Falguni Basumatary of Kokrajhar and Tutu Bora of Charaideo were adjudged as best player and best goalkeeper of the tournament respectively.
The tournament was organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare.
