GOLAKGANJ, May 18 � The traffic system of Dhubri town is in a shambles, due to which the residents are suffering a great deal. In the absence of proper parking arrangements, drivers park their vehicles on the roads, leading to frequent traffic jams and even accidents.
Local shopkeepers are also adding to the problem putting their goods on footpaths. As the majority of town roads are not very wide, haphazard parking of vehicles only compound the problems. Heavily loaded vehicles on the main roads also cause a lot of problems for the commuters.
Citizens allege that behind this chaotic situation lies an unholy nexus among the police, local goons and officials of the Dhubri Municipal Board. The traffic scene is terrible in the busy areas like Dhanpatty, NS Road, Bou Bazar and GTB Road. Four-wheelers and three-wheelers create the biggest nuisance on the GTB Road and in the Bou Bazar-College Road area. These are important link roads for the students to reach their schools and colleges, but the roads always remain clogged due to illegal parking of commercial vehicles.
Despite the fact that the number of vehicles is increasing day by day, the Traffic Police department, the Municipal Board and the district administration have not taken the matter seriously.
