JALUKBARI, April 15 - In a freak incident, a truck bearing registration no AS01DD 1377 which was coming from Amingaon towards Jalukbari, suddenly caught fire in the middle of the Saraighat bridge around 1.30 pm today.
The situation soon turned chaotic and there was panic among the travellers. The whole traffic flow was halted for about two hours. Two Fire Brigade engines with fire fighters from Pandu successfully doused the flame.
After the fire was doused a recovery van towed away the truck from the spot. Many patients, elderly people and children were stranded during the logjam. The police successfully managed to control the situation. Talking to this correspondent some of the travellers said that although they were stranded they thanked the police department for successfully handling the situation and clearing the jam quickly. Police sources said that the incident took place due to faulty wiring in the truck.
The driver and the helper managed to escape unhurt.
