DIBRUGARH, Nov 9 - The Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) here was witness to a chaotic situation in its mother and child care section of the department of obstetrics and gynaecology last night after fire broke out in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) following suspected short circuit.
Although the fire was contained within 20 minutes and power was restored inside the units after about 30 minutes, a panicky situation erupted among the patients and their attendants after the siren was sounded from the rushing in firetenders. No casualty has been reported, AMCH authorities told The Assam Tribune.
On the death of one baby on a ventilator in the out-born unit, medical authorities stated that the newborn was critical and the parents were already given counselling when they brought in the baby for treatment in the AMCH before the fire incident.
