Chamata drama troupe to perform in UP

GUWAHATI, Dec 11 - In all, 13 artists of the �Bhaona Cultural Group,� a socio-cultural organisation of Chamata (Sahpur) of Nalbari district established in 2015, have been invited to Shajahanpur of Uttar Pradesh to participate in the national- level drama contest. This was stated in a press release.

The play Chanmai, written and directed by a noted drama personality, Ghana Baishya, would be staged between December 15-19. The artists who will be performing are: Upen Sarma, Ghana Baishya, Pankaj Das, Kamal Sarma, Hiranya Raj, Rupam Sarma, Surjya Das, Chayanika Barman, Jiten Das, Tarini Das, Padum Das, Rubul Ali and Gajendra Nath Talukdar.

Chanmai is a play based on the �Kamrupia dhulia bhaona�. The dramatist Baishya has tried to unveil the beauty and gravity of Kamrupia dhulia culture through this drama in the face of exploitation in the modern age. The playwright Baishya also has tried to show through his drama the present condition of the dhulia artists, who still have not left their �Dhol� in spite of facing abject poverty.
