Challenges of ageing highlighted

GUWAHATI, June 8 � Renowned academician and Fulbright scholar Prof Shiela Bora, former Head of the Department of History, Dibrugarh University, delivered a lecture on �Gender and Ageing� on June 3 under the aegis of the Forum for Research in History at the Department of History, Handique Girls� College, Guwahati. This was stated in a press release.

In her lecture, Shiela Bora highlighted the challenges of ageing and its different aspects � physical, psychological and financial vis-a-vis the State�s and society�s role in providing security to the aged. Dr Priyam Goswami, retired professor and Head, Department of History, Gauhati University was the chief guest. In her speech, she opined that such a forum can help a great deal to acquaint the upcoming scholars to the new arenas of research in History.

The Forum for Research in History is regularly organising lectures and workshops. Earlier, the forum had organised a workshop on syllabus evaluation of History at the secondary level in collaboration with the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council.

Dr Runjun Barman, Head of Department, History, Handique Girls College, welcomed the gathering. Dr Shirin Banu, HoD, History, Pandu College, and president of the Forum, presided over the function. Dr Banu reiterated that the Forum will continue to encourage the scholars to take up new projects of research in History. Dr Nityananda Kalita, HoD, History, Suren Das College, Hajo, and secretary of the Forum explained its objectives.

The discussion was attended by the faculty members of different colleges of Guwahati as well as Gauhati University and several students from different colleges. Dr Navaneeta Baruah of Pandu College offered the vote of thanks.
