KOKRAJHAR, May 26 - The Ex-BLT Welfare Society today hailed the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre for its move to include the Bodo-Kacharis living in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts in the ST (H) list and the Karbis and Dimasas of the plains in the ST (P) list.

Jana Mohan Mashahary, president of Ex-BLT Welfare Society, also thanked the new coalition Government of Assam on the decision to include the Bodo-Kacharis of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao in the ST (H) status as per the recommendation of the Centre, which has been a long-standing demand of the Bodo people.

Mashahary stated that in the BTC Accord signed among the erstwhile BLT, Assam Government and the Centre on February 10, 2003, the grant of ST status to the Bodo-Kachari people living in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts was one of the prime demands of the BLT.

It may be mentioned here that the Union Cabinet on May 25 cleared the grant of ST status to the Bodo-Kachari people living in the two hill districts.

Mashahary appealed to all insurgent groups to come forward for negotiations for an amicable solution to their problems so that permanent peace could return to Assam.
