Centre working for corporates: Sarkar

By Correspondent

TEZPUR, March 16 Vehemently criticizing the Centre, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today said that the Narendra Modi government is running at the direction of the corporate sector.

Accusing the BJP of going back on its pre-poll commitments, Sarkar said that the party which had promised to bring back black money from foreign banks is now busy appeasing the those connected with the corporate sector as well as the corrupt people.

The veteran Leftist leader was addressing a meeting held in conformity with the 21st annual public meet that began at the Collegiate field here today.

The party, which painted a rosy picture of Achchey Din before the general elections, is now unleashing a sordid saga with around 600 farmers across the country committing suicide because of the wrong policies adopted by the government.

He alleged that 21 lakh farmers are now rushing to urban areas seeking employment as they have failed to get sufficient exposure for farming.

Coming down heavily on the wrong policies of the government, Sarkar further said that while Congress policies had been determined by the Gandhi family, the BJPs policies are fixed by the RSS. At a time when the future of hundreds of farmers in the country is at stake because of the wrong policies of the Centre, the Tripura government has been able to set a unique example by according priority to the farmers of the State, he claimed.

He alleged that though different organizations of the region have been demanding that the flood and erosion problem of the region be declared a national problem, this has not become a reality because national parties like the Congress and the BJP have a discriminatory attitude towards the North-East.

The programme was presided over by the State leader of the CPI(M) Uddhab Barman and attended by Rabin Tamuli, among others.
