Centre urged to help NE farmers showcase products in global event

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, June 23 - The Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) has urged the Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries to provide special support to the farmers and entrepreneurs from the North East to showcase their products during the World Food India the global event to facilitate domestic and global investments into food processing sector in India to be held in November.

As the event would be the largest gathering of investors, manufacturers, producers, food processors, policy makers and organisations from the global food ecosystem in India, the industry body said with timely support and initial handholding, the North East can be converted into a major supply source and hence provide a big scope to large international and national brands for backward integration.

FINER director Amrit Deorah, who attended a recent stakeholders meeting in Delhi in the presence of Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Minister of State of the department Rameswar Teli, conveyed the industry bodys suggestions for giving the farmers and entrepreneurs of the region a suitable opportunity to showcase, connect and collaborate through the event.
