NEW DELHI, Aug 24 The Centre has said that details of steps initiated by Bangladesh to hand over Anup Chetia are not available with India.

Details of action initiated by the Government of Bangladesh for handing over Anup Chetia are not available. Hence no time frame can be indicated in this regard, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Ramachandran said in a Rajya Sabha reply to a question by Naznin Faruque.

However, the matter is being pursued with the Government of Bangladesh, the Minister added.

The Government of India has taken up security related issues including handing over of Chetia and various other insurgent leaders reportedly hiding or in detention in Bangladesh.

Dhaka has assured to take all possible measures to address the security concerns, Ramachandran added.

As reported, old ULFA contact person Rebati Phukan accompanied by top officials of the Home Ministry had recently met Chetia in prison to gauge his mood and to convey messages of the pro-talk faction led by chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa.

Sources told this newspaper that the ULFA general secretary expressed his keen desire to take part in the ongoing peace process.
