Centre to develop eight Arunachal border villages

ITANAGAR, Dec 20 - In a bid to curb migration from the border villages, the Centre has decided to develop eight Arunachal Pradesh villages located in forward most areas of the international border into self sustaining units with proper amenities for the villagers.

This was revealed on Wednesday when Arunachal Governor Brig Dr BD Mishra (Retd), who is on official tour to New Delhi, met Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The unnamed border villages were identified by the Army at the initiative of the Arunachal Governor, according to a communiqu� from Raj Bhavan here.

During the meeting, the Governor briefed the Defence Minister regarding border security environment and the high morale of soldiers deployed in the border areas of the State. He also apprised her about his recent meetings with General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Corps and GOC, 4 Corps, the Formation Commanders, whose troops are deployed on Indo-China border in Arunachal Pradesh.

The Defence Minister appreciated the Army�s good work and welfare activities, which they are rendering to the civilians in border areas. During the meeting, it was resolved that more welfare schemes will be introduced for the civilians by the Army in coming months.

The Governor also suggested to the Defence Minister for early start of work for the Sainik Schools in the State. Sitharaman, during her visit to Itanagar last month had given in-principle approval for establishment of three Sainik Schools in Arunachal � one each in Tawang and Pasighat and Tirap-Changlang-Longding (TCL) region. It was decided that the construction work must commence latest by February 2018, the communiqu� said.

Earlier, the Governor met Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Bipin Rawat at the Army Headquarters, New Delhi and discussed about the ensuing Army recruitment rally in the State. The rally is scheduled to be held in the second week of February 2018.
