DIMAPUR, March 28 � Amid speculations that the 14-year-old ceasefire between the Centre and the NSCN (K) may be abrogated, the two parties held a Cease Fire Supervisory Board (CFSB) meeting at Police Complex, Chumukedima, Dimapur on Friday. The ceasefire with NSCN (K) is due to expire on April 27.
After the meeting, CFSB chairman Lt Gen NK Singh (retd) said the meeting, as scheduled nearly a month back, was held on Friday despite the present �somewhat fluid situation�. He said Friday�s meeting revolved mainly on ceasefire issues.
Despite the evolving situation, he said, NSCN (K) supervisor of CFSB Wangtin admitted that there could be some who may not be in favour of continuance of ceasefire, but �NSCN (K) unequivocally support the cease fire� and added that the current process was moving towards better peace in the State.
On the possibility of abrogation of ceasefire with NSCN (K) by the Government of India, Singh said he could not say for sure �since NSCN (K) is a Myanmar-based organisation�. On NSCN (K) abandoning Suruhuto camp, Gen Singh said the thinning out began on March 17 or earlier. He said the abandonment of Phutkong camp in Mon was linked to the Kohima attack due to apprehension of retaliation. He said both camps were being occupied by Assam Rifles.
Meanwhile, according to a report in a local daily today, NSCN (K) chairman SS Khaplang along with all �top leaders� reviewed the �existing arrangement� and resolved to abrogate the 14-year-old ceasefire agreement with Government of India.
But NSCN (K) supervisor of CFSB Wangtin Naga, after the CFSB meeting, clarified that the ceasefire has not been abrogated.
On the allegation that the outfit was behind firing at Assam Rifles personnel in Kohima and bomb blast in Wokha on March 26, Wangtin admitted that �some group of people� might not want peace but only time would reveal which was the group.
NSCN (K) senior kilonser (Minister) from Arunachal Pradesh V Tikhak who also attended the Friday�s CFSB meeting said it is not ascertained whether his outfit was involved in the attacks or not.
Meanwhile, Eastern Nagaland Peoples� Organisation (ENPO) has appealed to both the Government of India and the NSCN (K) to honour the sentiments and desires of the people of Eastern Nagas in particular and the Nagas in general for peace and to extend the ceasefire.
