NEW DELHI, Oct 26 - The formal political dialogue between the Government of India and NDFB(P) faction is likely to get under way from November-end.
It was decided at a tripartite talks involving the Centre, Assam Government and the insurgent outfit, which was chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at the North Block here this morning. The meeting was attended by Assam Industry and Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and BPF leader Hagrama Mohilary, Chandan Brahma and Rajya Sabha MP Biswajeet Daimary. The 11-member NDFB(P) delegation was led by the outfit�s general secretary Govinda Basumatary.
Talking to newsmen after attending the meeting, Patowary said that the talks were satisfactory and �a decision has been reached that the peace talks will start by the end of November.� He also credited Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for today�s talks, claiming that it became possible because of his initiative.
The NDFB(P) had been insisting that it would take part in any dialogue with New Delhi only at political level. The outfit alleged that by not holding the talks at political level, the government was trying to �sidetrack� the issue of a separate state under the Constitution.
Later, Govinda Basumatary said that talks were not progressing at official level and hence they demanded that it should be held at political level. �Eleven years have passed since the talks were started with the Government of India and now the Centre should expedite the process,� he added.
