Centre makes fresh bid to select OIL CMD

By SPL CORRESPONDENT

NEW DELHI, Feb 8 - The selection of the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of public sector giant Oil India Limited (OIL) has yet again run into trouble, with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas deciding to initiate a fresh application process.

Sources said that the selection of the CMD is likely to be delayed yet again, because the government could not find a suitable candidate for the post. The last selection process was abandoned after the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) decided to see more candidates.

Currently, Joint Secretary in the ministry, UP Singh, is officiating as the CMD of OIL, while the PESB was engaged in the process to select a new CMD. In the last round of selection process, at least 10 candidates had applied.

For the third time in over a year, PESB has not found any of the applicants suitable for the top job at OIL, the nations second biggest state-owned oil and gas explorer.

Sources said the ministry had zeroed in on a top bureaucrat for the post, but the Prime Ministers Office (PMO) did not approve it.
