DIPHU, Oct 23 - The long-awaited �Centre for Studies in Karbi Language� was inaugurated by Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Tuliram Ronghang in presence of executive member, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and in-charge of Higher Education department Jagat Sing Ingti at Rongkimi locality here recently.
The opening ceremony was presided over by programme coordinator of the department and was attended by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Chairman Longki Timung, Executive Members Ratan Teron, Amarsing Tisso, Raju Tasso, Prodip Diphusa, Members of Autonomous Council Horensing Bey, Dorsing Ronghang, Ramsing Timung, Richard Tokbi, Pobitra Rongpi and Pawan Kumar and other dignitaries.
In his inaugural address, CEM Ronghang appreciated everyone associated with the implementation of the project to promote Karbi language globally. He said that every individual has the responsibility to protect and promote his of her mother tongue. He informed that the issue has been clubbed with the Memorandum of Settlement of the UPDS Accord.
The KAAC CEM also stated that Rs 1 crore will be allocated in the budget for the expenditures of the project and mentioned that a permanent building will be constructed and all other requirements fulfilled.
It may be mentioned here that the study centre under Assam University at present has four faculty members and around hundred students are engaged in this course.
