Centre denies spl assistance to Tripura

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Jan 31 The Centre has turned down Tripura Governments demand for special package to tide over the unprecedented financial crisis after declaration of 13th Finance Commissions award.

Planning Commission Deputy Chairperson Montek Singh Ahluwalia in a letter addressed to the State Government had said that the Centre had given Rs 800 crore as special assistance to Tripura during 2011-12 financial year and it could not release more fund to tide over the financial crisis.

Yet, the Planning Commission will try to maintain the States Plan outlay for the 2013-13 financial year as much as possible, he said in the letter adding more woes to the State Government.

Confirming this to media, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Wednesday said that the State Government wanted to release more DA to the State Government employees and pensioners. The State Government was hoping to get special financial assistance following the unprecedented financial crisis but the letter from Ahluwalia has shattered the government, he said.
