Centre clears Rs 1488 cr worth PMGSY schemes

ITANAGAR, Nov 23 - In a major initiative to provide connectivity to the last mile in the border State of Arunachal Pradesh, the Union Ministry of Rural Development has accorded clearance for 119 roads and 36 bridges under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), with an estimated cost of Rs 1488.56 crore.

This was informed by Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, adding that the balance proposal for 43 roads and 17 bridges will also be accorded sanction after inspection by the NQMs (National Quality Monitors) in next two to four weeks.

�This has been possible after the meeting of Rijiju with Union RD Minister to work out special provision for Arunachal Pradesh,� according to a release here. Rijiju informed that Government of India is committed to provide connectivity to all the eligible habitations in a phased manner within 2019 and all the habitations near international border will also be provided road connectivity within the period.

The Centre has also accepted for considering the long span bridges over the rivers and water bodies and extended from 75 metres to 100 metres under PMGSY projects, it added.
