NEW DELHI, Nov 29 � The Centre has admitted irregularities and misuse of funds in the Transport Subsidy Scheme in some States including Nagaland.
The Performance Audit report of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has pointed out cases of suspected fraudulent and doubtful claims and other procedural irregularities. These include payment of transport subsidy beyond eligible period of five years, payment for period prior to the date of registration, payment of time-barred claims, non-manufacturing activities, illegal wood-based activities, inadmissible raw material, among others, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Anand Sharma in a Lok Sabha reply to a question by Ramen Deka.
The north-eastern States are among 14 States where the Transport Subsidy Scheme is under implementation.
Assam is recipient of highest subsidy and the State received a whopping Rs 297.36 crore in 2007-08. In 2008-2009, the State did not receive any funds under the Transport Subsidy Scheme. The next fiscal, Assam was released Rs 164.83 crore and in 2010-11, an amount of Rs 155.58 crore.
